Songfacts®:

  • Europe vocalist Joey Tempest and keyboardist Mic Michaeli wrote this power ballad in 1985. A early version that included only keyboards and vocals was played on a tour in Sweden the same year, but the final version features the band playing as a whole. >>>

  • We always wondered if there was a real Carrie, and in 2015 lead singer Joey Tempest told us there wasn't. "We were young then, the normal breaking up and finding a new girlfriend," he said in describing the inspiration. "It was more of a general thing, actually."
  • The song was the third of Europe's four Top 40 entries on the US Hot 100. It was their most successful song across the Atlantic, peaking at #3. However, Europe are far better known in most territories for "The Final Countdown," which topped the charts in 25 countries.
  • The video was directed by Nick Morris, who got the gig after doing the band's wildly successful clip for "The Final Countdown." He directed all of the band's early videos.

  • James from Le127sj Europe are a very under rated group.
    The lead sing is brilliant.
    Had lots of hits
  • George from Vancouver, CanadaAn excellent song. Only found out today that Europe did it. So Final Countdown is not a one-hit-wonder, as some are saying. . .
