Songfacts®:

  • In this song, the singer isn't good with goodbyes, so she steals off at night while her lover is asleep, saying goodbye for the two of them and avoiding the confrontation. It was written by Diane Warren, whose songs often deal with matters of the heart.
  • "I'll Say Good-Bye For The Two Of Us" was featured in the movie Free Willy 2: The Adventure Home, and first appeared on the soundtrack. It was issued as a single following the movie's theme song: "Childhood" by Michael Jackson. A few months later, the song appeared on Exposé's greatest hits album.
  • This was the last Exposé single before they split up. The group started as a dance music outfit, reeling off an amazing seven Top 10 hits from their first two albums, released in 1987 and 1989. By their third album in 1992, they embraced an adult contemporary sound and Diane Warren was their primary songwriter; she delivered them another Top 10 in "I'll Never Get Over You Getting Over Me," but their label, Arista Records, lost interest in the group, and after "I'll Say Good-Bye For The Two Of Us" failed to make a big splash in 1995, dropped them. They split up soon after, eventually reuniting a decade later.
