Songfacts®:

  • "Come Home" was written by Ryan Tedder about a soldier friend of his who was serving overseas. Faith Hill debuted the song on the CMA Awards on November 9, 2011 and it was made available for download shortly afterwards. It was her first single since "Red Umbrella" in 2007.
  • The song is a cover; it was originally a power-ballad from Ryan Tedder's pop/rock band, OneRepublic's debut album, Dreaming Out Loud, released in 2007. Speaking about her version, Hill said, "It's such a great song, so well written - a beautiful lyric and sentiment - combined with a driving musical undertone and instrumentation. I'm really excited for fans of country radio to hear the song."
  • Hill planned to include this song on an album called Illusion that never materialized. Along with "American Heart," it was one of two songs released from the project, which she worked on for much of 2011 before abandoning it.
