Songfacts®:

  • Twenty-three years after releasing her debut album Take Me As I Am, Faith Hill issued her final LP for Nashville's Warner Bros. label. Deep Tracks is a compilation disc containing some of the singer's favorite non-singles plus three previously unreleased tracks, including "Come To Jesus." The song was written and originally released by Mindy Smith as her second single in 2004. It is the New York singer-songwriter's biggest hit, charting at #32 on Billboard's Adult Top 40 tally.
  • Hill chose to include this inspirational Mindy Smith-penned song as a gift for her mother, Edna Perry, who passed away on October 30, 2016. "Three weeks ago today my mom passed away," Hill wrote on November 20, 2016. "Mom often asked if I would ever get around to recording a gospel album. That's all she wanted to hear me sing. I'm thankful that she was able to hear this song before she took a seat on the glory train. This is 'Come to Jesus' dedicated to my mom."
  • The song also had special meaning to the father of Hill's husband, Tim McGraw. "I recorded this song during the last couple of weeks that [McGraw's dad] Tug McGraw battled with brain cancer," the singer explained. "Tim played him my rough cut, and Tug listened to it multiple times a day until his passing [on January 5, 2004]."
