Songfacts®:

  • Bassist and lyricist Pete Wentz originally wrote this as a companion piece to the album's lead single, "My Songs Know What You Did In The Dark (Light Em Up)."
  • G.O.O.D. Music MC Big Sean pops in halfway through with a demi-entendre-filled lovelorn rap verse. Wentz explained to Kerrang! "Lyrically and temp-wise, it made the most sense to bring him in on this song. With this record, we wanted to have a balance, so having Courtney, Elton and Foxes, I felt like there needed to be another voice represented, and Sean fitted the bill."
  • The music video is the fifth part of Fall Out Boy's musical movie The Young Blood Chronicles, where the band is kidnapped by a mysterious cult that wants to eliminate music. In this clip, they manage to escape the burning van their captors have trapped them in, only to be beset upon by a gang of violent children. Big Sean also appears in the video as the band's ally The Herald.
  • Fall Out Boy went on hiatus after touring in support of their previous album, Folie à Deux, in 2009. Save Rock And Roll marks their return to the studio as well as their return to the top of the albums chart since Infinity On High hit #1 in 2007.
