Songfacts®:

  • This lament about the inevitable passing of time was one of the first songs that Fall Out Boy worked on after their hiatus. Bassist and lyricist Pete Wentz told Kerrang! magazine: "I remember thinking we needed a 'Dance, Dance'/ 'This Ain't A Scene, It's An Arms Race' type song that emanated that kind of feeling."
  • Wentz explained the song's meaning to Kerrang!: "Having spent time in that dance music scene, I saw a lot of people who were there for the wrong reasons, and that always ends up really sad and weird. On top of that, on a meta-level, the thing we came from – whatever you wanna call it – kinda isn't there so much any more. So there's a little aspect of that to it."
  • The music videos from Save Rock And Roll make up Fall Out Boy's Young Blood Chronicles, which tells the story of a anti-music cult that captures and tortures the band. In "Just One Yesterday," they were re-captured after an escape and brought to an abandoned hospital. In this clip, a hook-wielding Patrick, who has been brainwashed by the enemy, hunts down his bandmates who are hiding throughout the building.
  • Despite wanting to capture the feeling of their earlier hits, the band didn't want their comeback album to be a rehash of their earlier output as cocky emo kings. "We didn't want to come back just to bask in the glory days and, like, and collect a few checks and pretend ... and do our best 2003 impersonation," FOB frontman Patrick Stump told MTV. "We wanted to do something that was us now. And if it weren't right, we weren't going to do it."

After Stump and Wentz wrote "Where Did The Party Go," it gave them the shot in the arm they needed to continue with the project.
