Songfacts®:

  • "Wonderful Night" is a song by Norman Cook, aka Fatboy Slim, a key figure in the British big beat genre that dominated the late 1990s and early 2000s. Released as the second single from his 2004 album, Palookaville, the song features American rapper Lateef the Truthspeaker, a member of the Quannum Projects collective, whose lyrics celebrate dancing and cutting loose. Lateef also makes a reference to David and Victoria "Posh Spice" Beckham with the line: "Our style's f--kin' Posh like Dave Beckham."

The track reached #51 in the UK, but Lateef's work with Fatboy Slim didn't end there, with the rapper also contributing to "That Old Pair of Jeans" and "Champion Sound" on Fatboy Slim's 2006 compilation album, The Greatest Hits—Why Try Harder.
  • "Wonderful Night" has earned its place as a sports stadium anthem, particularly in the US. One of its most iconic uses is at Madison Square Garden during New York Knicks home games, where it's regularly played in the second half to energize the crowd.
  • Directed by American filmmaker Jon Watts, who would later helm the Spider-Man films in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the music video for "Wonderful Night" is a surreal adventure. It stars Lateef the Truthspeaker, who, dressed in a tuxedo, dances through a luxurious hotel and casino. As the night progresses, Lateef transforms into a werewolf, leading to chaotic antics that include crashing a car into a lake. By morning, he returns to human form, waking up as if it had all been a wild dream.
  • In 2004, Fatboy Slim performed "Wonderful Night" with a live band on Late Night With Conan O'Brien. In a departure from his usual DJ role, Cook played bass guitar during the performance, offering a raw, punky rendition of the track.
  • "Wonderful Night" was nominated for Best Dance Recording at the 48th Annual Grammy Awards in 2006, though Fatboy Slim lost to his good friends the Chemical Brothers and their song "Galvanize" featuring Q-Tip.
  • "Wonderful Night" has been featured in various films and media. In 2005, it appeared in the animated movie Robots, starring Ewan McGregor and Halle Berry. In 2006, it featured in the romantic comedy Just My Luck with Lindsay Lohan and Chris Pine and the animated film Flushed Away starring Hugh Jackman and Kate Winslet. That same year, it was also mashed with "Here Comes Santa Claus" for a JCPenney Christmas commercial.
