Songfacts®:

  • This song is credited to "Fela Kuti and His Koola Lobitos." According to Fela Kuti biographer Tejumola Olaniyan writing in 2004, "Onidodo" or "Fried Plaintain Seller" was a popular uptempo recording, a three minute track by Koola Lobitos, arguably their most popular, and "the only Koola Lobitos song that still remains a party favorite today." It is not an entirely original Fela composition, but appears to be of Nigerian folk origin.

According to another Fela Kuti biographer, Michael E. Veal, the song "describes the chaos that ensues when a Lagos street vendor exhausts his wares in the face of a hungry crowd." >>>
