The Heart Of Man Is Like A Mine

Album: not on an album (1842)

Songfacts®:

  • This song was believed to have been lost for over a century. It was written by the composer Felix Mendelssohn in 1842, commissioned by an acquaintance and performed privately. According to a May 2014 broadcast by Red River Radio, the original manuscript was sold at auction twice, the last time in 1872. In 2014 it came to light in the US and was performed for the first time since the 19th Century by Amy Williamson and Christopher Glynn from the Royal College of Music - the latter on piano - for the BBC Radio 4 Today programme on May 6, 2014.

In spite of the English title, it has lyrics in German. >>>
