Songfacts®:

  • This global anthem finds Fergie shouting out locations around the world. She penned the song with songwriter/producer Shomari "Sho" Wilson (Ne-Yo's "Fade into the Background"), Seattle MC Royce Thomas, and Rock City's Theron Thomas. The track was produced by DJ Mustard (will.i.am, T-Pain, Trey Songz).
  • The song finds Fergie exhorting everyone around the world from L.A. to Germany to shout "la la la la." There are plenty of lahs – we counted 130 of them!
  • All those lahs are not only a play on Los Angeles' initials, but also double as an exhortation for other states and countries to join California in legalizing marijuana. (La la La is also a common phrase used for weed).
  • The Fatima Robinson-directed music video finds Fergie touring California in her double-decker party bus. She travels from the Hollywood Hills to Venice Beach and down to Randy's Donut's in Inglewood.

Along with featured rapper YG and producer DJ Mustard, there are also cameos from a host of Los Angeles-based stars. Did you spot Chelsea Handler (as the "irresponsible raver mom"), Kelly Osbourne, Ryan Seacrest, Hilary Swank, Wilmer Valderrama, Sen Dog from Cypress Hill, Mike Will Made It, Rae Sremmund, Taylor Momsen and Tommy Chong of Cheech & Chong fame?
  • Fergie told Digital Spy why she chose this as her first solo single for six years, save for her contribution to the Great Gatsby soundtrack. "It just felt good and the right time to spread some positivity," she explained. "It felt right to me because there's all this craziness going on in the world right now. That's basically why. There's just so much going on with all the terrorism and ISIS and all of that, I just felt like I wanted to spread some chill Cali vibes."
  • Fergie mentions over 40 countries and cities in the song. "I tried to include as many places as I could," she told The Guardian. "But a lot of the places I mention were nostalgic for me and I was just thinking of the places I've been on tour and hung out."
