Songfacts®:

  • This Chris "TEK" O'Ryan, Ester Dean, Dallas K and Ammo penned tune was brought to the girls by their A&R Chris Anokute. Dinah Jane Hansen recalled to Billboard:

"We were recording these other songs, and our A&R guy Chris referred the song and he was like, 'Guys, you have to do this on the track,' so he played it for us. The first time we heard it, we were like, 'Woah, this is so different.'"
  • Dinah is a big admirer of co-writer and co-producer Ester Dean who has also penned Hot 100 #1s for Rihanna ("Rude Boy," "What's My Name?," "S&M") and Katy Perry "Firework"). She said:

"It made the song even more special to me because I'm a huge fan of hers. She just flavored it up, and we couldn't help but take the chance on it. Once we all tried out the song, we were like, 'This is the one we're going to ride with for this next album.' It just shows - it's different."
  • Producers Ester Dean and Ammo sample MC Hammer's frisky "Pumps and a Bump." Dinah Jane Hansen told The L.A. Times:

"Our generation heard of 'Pumps and a Bump' from our parents. I remember telling my mom about the [sample] and she was like, 'You don't know anything about this song... girl this is back in my day.' She made me pull up the original and play it."
