Songfacts®:

  • This song is about the feeling of love, describing how that euphoria can make you do crazy things. Or, as Fishbone frontman Angelo Moore described it less delicately in a Songfacts interview: "'Bonin' in the Boneyard,' that was about having sex, man. Bonin'. Everybody in high school, all the guys, they want to get the p--sy."
  • Fishbone's producer, David Kahne, had a hand in writing this song along with their bass player John Norwood Fisher and lead singer Angelo Moore. "I remember David was in the studio writing about that: My pole is in your hole, got me bonin', man," said Moore. "We were just sittin' around clownin' and writing it down. Oh, the gold rush."
  • "Bonin' In The Boneyard" was included on Fishbone's second album, Truth And Soul. They got radio support in New York and Los Angeles, but their fanbase was modest, although quite devoted (Fishbone was known for extremely high energy live shows). Their ska sound was perhaps a little ahead of its time, too soon for the American ska revival of the '90s, and they couldn't break through in the world of funk metal the way Faith No More and Red Hot Chili Peppers did. Fishbone ended up being a band whose influence far exceeded their popularity.
  • A snippet of this song is used in the song "Good Time Boys" by the Red Hot Chili Peppers. >>
