Songfacts®:

  • The opening track and title song of Five Finger Death Punch's sixth album, the phrase "got your six" is a military term for "got your back." The terminology comes from a clock, so if you're in the center looking straight ahead, that's 12 o'clock. 6 o'clock, then, is directly behind you.
  • The song is a tribute to both the military and the band's fans (which often overlap in this Venn diagram). There's a lot of battlefield imagery in the lyrics, which celebrates the troops that are literally fighting but also represents the bond between Five Finger Death Punch and their fans. The band has shown support for the military through hefty donations to veterans' support groups and by including veterans in their operations when possible. They entertained the troops with a USO tour in Iraq in March 2010.
  • In the liner notes to the album, the band included this message:

"Those who got our six, we got yours. You know who you are."
