Songfacts®:

  • "Inside Out" is a defiant track where vocalist Ivan Moody recounts how his heavy drinking affected his relationships with those close to him, including his bandmates. After realizing he's the only one who can sort himself out, Moody checked himself into rehab. He has been sober since early 2018.
  • Speaking with Metal Hammer magazine, Moody explained the song's meaning: "It's about alcoholism. It's about my family leaving. It's about my bandmates. It's about looking at myself in the f---ing face and saying, 'Dude, you're going to have to do this because nobody else is coming.'"
  • "Inside Out" reached #1 on Billboard's Mainstream Rock Songs chart, becoming Five Finger Death Punch's eighth song to top the tally. The previous seven were: "Coming Down," "Battle Born," "Lift Me Up," "Wash It All Away," "Sham Pain," "When The Seasons Change," and a cover of Kenny Wayne Shepherd's "Blue On Black."
  • The song's music video combines behind-the-scenes footage from rehearsals with clips from past FFDP performances and shots of the finished product.

  • Ryan from Edenvale South Africa Moody my brother. Your music and the passion behind it drives me to the edge of obsession. I have never been so in tune with any music. Be it the words or the adrenaline pumping manner and n which it’s delivered. In short you guys write and make music that hits the very core of my beliefs and ideals and I never get tired or bored of it. You say What you feel and f--k the rest and I f--ken love it. good on you for the recovery and the determination to walk the road. I myself battle daily demons from a 19 year crack addiction. Can’t go back and change things but I sure as f--k can determine my walk going forward. Shot for the best tracks I've ever heard and shot for making me feel there are people out there that reside in the same place I do.
  • Lauren from MaI love this song, the lyrics are wicked powerful.
