Songfacts®:

  • The first single from American rapper Flo Rida's fourth album Wild Ones contains a second generation sample: The Swedish dance artist Avicii's tune "Levels" samples the 1961 Etta James song "Something's Got a Hold On Me." Flo's producer Dr. Luke lifted the Etta James vocals from that song and used them here on "Good Feeling." "It's legendary, we got Etta James featured on there, so it's crazy," Flo Rida told MTV News.
  • The original "Queen Of Soul" (before Aretha Franklin claimed the title), Etta James (1938-2012) is recognized by many to have bridged the gap between rhythm and blues and rock and roll. Rolling Stone ranked her #22 on their list of the 100 Greatest Singers of All Time and she is best known to many for her version of the Mack Gordon and Harry Warren song "At Last."
  • This was Flo Rida's third UK #1 single. He previously topped the chart with "Right Round" in 2009 and "Club Can't Handle Me" in 2010. The rapper also made a cameo appearance on Alexandra Burke's "Bad Boys" which reached the peak position in 2009.
  • The rapper didn't have time to shoot a proper video while on tour, so he had a crew - helmed by director Erik White (Chris Brown, Fabolous) - follow him around to capture shots of him working out and performing in Paris, Marseilles, Venice, and his home city of Miami.
  • There are nine songwriters credited on this track, including the three who wrote the sampled Etta James song and the two who wrote the sampled Avicii track. The other four are Flo Rida, his producers Dr. Luke and Cirkut, and Breyan Isaac, who also worked on Flo's "Hello Friday."

According to Isaac, Flo Rida's manager had the idea of using the Etta James sample. Flo Rida then worked on the verses and bridge, and Isaac helped him hash out the song.
