Songfacts®:

  • Flo is a R&B girl group from London comprising Jorja Douglas, Stella Quaresma, and Renée Downer. The trio formed in 2019 and signed to Island Records. "Cardboard Box" is their debut single.
  • After seeing another girl's panties on the bathroom floor, Flo are done with their man. They stuff his belongings in the titular cardboard box and change their number and the locks. "'Cardboard Box' is one of the first songs we wrote as a group and during the process we opened up about relationship struggles and experiences of moving on from an ex," Flo told Official Charts. "It was a special bonding moment and feels fitting that it's our debut single."
  • MNEK produced the track. The British producer has a successful track record with girl groups, having worked on The Saturdays' "All Fired Up" and Little Mix' "Wings," "Touch" and "Sweet Melody."
  • Flo made their television debut when they performed "Cardboard Box" on the late-night US TV show Jimmy Kimmel Live! on October 6, 2022.
  • Flo released an official remix titled "Cardboard Box - Happi Remix" on October 7, 2022. The new version went viral after a Polynesian creator's dance routine took off on TikTok, leading to over 400,000 videos a day at its peak.
  • On December 7, 2022, Claro Amfo announced on her BBC Radio 1 show that Flo had won the 2023 BRITs Rising Star award. The first girl group to be honored, they follow in the footsteps of the likes of Adele, Florence + The Machine, Sam Smith, Rag 'N' Bone Man, Ellie Goulding, Sam Fender and Celeste.
