Songfacts®:

  • After a period of living in Los Angeles after his divorce in 1997, Foo Fighter's frontman Dave Grohl became increasingly disgusted with the superficial life and atmosphere of the city and some of the people who lived there. He decided to get away from it all once and for all. In 1998, he purchased a home in Alexandria, Virginia - the area he was raised. It is here where he built a home studio and recorded There is Nothing Left To Lose along with fellow Foos Nate Mendel and Taylor Hawkins. It is also this story that inspired "Ain't it the Life." Grohl stated in a 1999 interview, "Ain't it the Life, I think, is the one song that I would love to play on my porch." >>>
