Songfacts®:

  • Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins overdosed in London in 2001 and Dave Grohl sat with him until he came out of his coma. Later the Foo frontman wrote this song about the incident, which ended up on the acoustic disc of their 2005 album, In Your Honor. Hawkins had no idea that Grohl wrote the song about his drugs OD until Grohl revealed the background to the tune in the Foo Fighters 2011 documentary Back and Forth. The Foo stickman told Q magazine: "I don't want to know that s--t. I really don't. Unfortunately that is going to be a part of my story forever, something that happened in my late 20s through being an idiot. Some things are better left unsaid as far as I'm concerned. It's sweet, I suppose, but I could have gone my whole life without knowing it."
