Songfacts®:

  • Dave Grohl told Q magazine this song has "such a badass riff it's f---ing insane. It makes you want to break into someone's car and steal their stereo."
  • The Foo Fighters recorded a hilarious lo-fi video for their fans as a Valentine's Day present. The clip sees the band driven around in a white limousine by Lemmy from Motorhead, and Grohl's wife Jordyn also makes a cameo appearance. It was inspired by the simplicity of old-school punk videos like Black Flag's "TV Party" and "Slip it In." "They were always done on VHS," Grohl told MTV News. "The lip-syncing was always out of sync. They were really silly. The music was insane but they were funny. So, we got this limo and we had Lemmy from Motorhead drive us around. And it was me directing! So I was just like, 'Uh, I don't know, um, drink that whiskey!' ... There's something about old school VHS. It has this weird resolution that's almost more high-def than high-def. It makes you look so gross. The lighting is always bad and the colors are always off. There's just something about it. It's almost like an effect, you know?"
  • In an interview with Classic Rock, Grohl stated that he penned the lyrics for "White Limo" in just two minutes after Foo Fighters bassist Nate Mendel told him he didn't need to write "We Are The World" type message songs every time.
  • Foo Fighters won Best Hard Rock/Metal Performance for this song at the 2012 Grammy Awards. They won five Grammys at the ceremony, also taking home the prizes for Best Rock Performance and Best Rock Song for "Walk," Best Rock Album for Wasting Light, and Best Long Form Music Video for the band's documentary, Back and Forth.
