This is one of two new songs on Foo Fighters' 2009 Greatest Hits album. Frontman Dave Grohl told MTV News: "On the last tour, we decided to treat soundcheck as a place to write songs and not just to practice. So we picked these two songs and called Butch Vig - who I haven't worked with since 1991, when he worked on Nirvana's Nevermind - and he came in and produced them."
This rugged rocker was written for Dave Grohl's best friend, Jimmy, who had recently passed away.
Grohl told BBC Radio 1's Chris Moyles that he believes his band's Greatest Hits album "seems premature," comparing such releases to an "obituary" for a band. "It still seems premature because we're still a functioning, active band," he said. "Those things can look like an obituary. We were asked to do this a long time ago. We wrote it into a deal a long time ago – that's how it works."He added that the album was simply the product of their contract with their record label SonyBMG. Said Grohl: "They [Sony] started asking about four years ago, and we said, 'Don't we need some hits?' It's like a CliffsNotes [series of US student study guides] version of what we've been doing for the last 15 years. I think there are better songs than some of those."
Grohl explained to Q magazine January 2010 that Jimmy, "was my partner in crime from the time I was six or seven years old. The first time I smoked weed, he lit the bowl. The first time I went on tour, he was my roadie."
