Songfacts®:

  • According to their guitarist Mick Jones, Foreigner's songs deal with relationships and emotional issues - they don't write "message songs." He told us: "There was a song on the Agent Provocateur album called 'That Was Yesterday,' which is a song about a relationship that failed, which you're still clinging onto. You still feel that there's a chance to resurrect it. Some of these songs require really digging down deep, and sometimes they bring out very painful moments that you've had. A lot of the songs that I've written of that kind of emotion, they bring me to tears. They're painful to recall." (Check out our interview with Mick Jones.)

  • Rio H from Phoenix, AzThe song That Was Yesterday came out 2 years after my 16yo girlfriend, that I had known since the age of 8, was killed in a car accident. many of the lyrics in that song apply to my situation. In fact, when she first died and anyone would ask if I was going to be OK, I would reply "I'll be fine, it's just a slight change in plans", so when I heard that song I suffered a major setback in my recovery from that tragic loss. Her favorite band was Foreigner and I still get emotional to this day when I hear that song.
  • Seventhmist from 7th HeavenGreat song, but overshadowed by "I Want to Know What Love Is" when it came out. Glad both are on my compilation CD.
