Songfacts®:

  • Morning/Evening comprises two 20-minute tracks inspired by Hindu raga, partly written by Kieran Hebden (aka Four Tet) in tribute to his Indian maternal grandparents. He penned the record after listening to a loop from a 1980s Indian record of playback singer Lata Mangeshkar's voice for three days and imagined the whole album down to the last detail.
  • The record is an expression of Hebden's interest in spiritual music. He told Q magazine: "My wife says I'm always going on about being an atheist but I surround myself with religious art. I'm excited because the records are being made for a different purpose to communicate with God, not to get in the charts."
  • This features samples from Lata Mangeshkar's performance of "Main Teri Chhoti Behana Hoon," recorded for the 1983 Hindi-language movie Souten.
