Songfacts®:

  • "Swim Good" was Frank Ocean's second single, following "Novacane." At the time he was ghost-writing for other artists and was a member of the Odd Future collective. Both songs are part of Ocean's Nostalgia, Ultra mixtape, which established him as a solo artist. The "Swim Good" single was released on August 16, 2011.
  • The song features production from Music production duo Midi Mafia who comprises New Yorker Bruce Waynne and Canadian Dirty Swift.
  • Lyrically, the song finds Ocean driving to a funeral in his Lincoln Towncar, which we later find out is to be his own.
  • The song came together in just a few minutes. "We did 'Swim Good' in probably 10 minutes," Dirty Swift recalled to Complex. "I don't remember when he wrote it. It was probably one of those 5 am sessions and we woke up the next day like, 'This is crazy.' At some point he's like, 'This is going on the tape.'"
