Songfacts®:

  • This is the first single from UK punk-inspired folk singer Frank Turner's third album, Poetry of the Deed.
  • Turner explained to The Last Time Express: "It's a song about traveling and staying on the move. I guess I was kind of careful to make sure it wasn't that much about touring with the music, partly because I think it's tedious when bands constantly write songs about being in bands, also because it's not just all I'm talking about. Live a life in transit, a life on the move, a rich varied life - and you don't have be a guitarist to do it."
  • At Beautiful Days festival 2009, which was set up and is run by the Levellers, Frank stated that the title from this song was a tribute to a Levellers song of the same name: "I am admitting right here, right now in front of you all that I nicked the title for this one from the Levellers. It's called The Road, enjoy!" Frank is also known to cover the Levellers with the song "Julie." >>
