Songfacts®:

  • Running just 1:58, the story behind this Frankie Vaughan composition is explained in an article by Chris Hayes that appeared in the Melody Maker, February 3, 1962 issue headlined "Police Said 'Keep Going' And A Song Is Born In A Blizzard."

It appears that while he was on tour between Blackburn and Leicester, Vaughan decided to drive to Leeds to visit his parents. He remembered the advice given to him by Blackburn police: "Don't Stop!"

Thinking there must be a song there, he took it along to the A&R man from Philips without owning up to the authorship, and was told it would be orchestrated right away. Vaughan had apparently written several songs under pseudonyms. It was released on the Philips label backed by "Red Red Roses." >>>
