Songfacts®:

  • The Franz Ferdinand: Tonight album was recorded live using the individual ambiance of the various rooms in their Glasgow base. Frontman Alex Kapranos explained to Mojo magazine December 2008 that this song uses two takes, "one done in a dry room with loads of padding and another with a live rock 'n' roll feel done in the basement-it's like a film editing technique, moving from relaxed to macabre."
  • Kapranos continued that as he played his guitar, producer Dan Carey hurled the microphone through the air, across the room and over the amplifier. He said: "The sound we ended up with sounds like a cross between a guitar and a World War II dive-bomber. It's wicked."
  • Kapranos shared his thoughts on this song in Q magazine June 2008: "It's got a very tight dance feel to it, but it also has a feeling that it's going to burst into the madness of Motorhead or The Damned."
  • Kapranos recalled to the New Musical Express January 17,2009: "I remember ad-libbing the vocals and the only mic set up in the room was on the kick drum, so I sang it lying on my front."
