Songfacts®:

  • Before he became a heavy metal icon, Bon Scott fronted bands with a softer image. Prior to joining AC/DC he was lead vocalist for the short-lived Fraternity. In March 1972 they released the single "Welfare Boogie" - the B-side was a melodic song called "Annabelle."

Written by lead guitarist Mick Jurd and keyboard player John Bisset, it was probably inspired by no one and nothing in particular, but it turned out to be painfully prophetic for Bon. In the song, Annabelle sends the singer a telegram warning him that her father is coming after him with a loaded shotgun. Sometime later, Bon was attacked and savagely beaten by the father of a 17-year-old girl he'd bedded.
  • "Annabelle" would later be released on a compilation of early Bon Scott tracks by Raven Records called Seasons Of Change 1967-72. >>>
