Songfacts®:

  • This high-energy hook-heavy jam finds French Montana uniting the coasts as he links up with Bronx rapper Lil TJay and Los Angeles MC Blueface. The song was recorded at Montana's Southern California studio.
  • "Slide" wasn't planned, but the energy between the three rappers created the track. "They're both young so it almost reminded me of how I was when I was coming up," Montana told EW. "They just have that special energy - I'd go in like that too, like a kid in a candy store. I saw my face in them. I know that feeling when you're first coming up and your s--t is finally taking off after you've been grinding for so long. They had that hunger so we knocked that s---out in under 15 minutes."
  • The titular term "slide" is a reference to Montana urging a girl to "come through."
  • The uptempo beat was created by newcomers Ashton Vines & Baruch "Mixx" Nembhard. It switches to some g-funk style on the bridge with a sample of Snoop Dogg's 1993 song "Serial Killa."
  • The song's macabre and stylish music video, co-directed by Montana and Spiff TV, channels Mexico's annual Day of the Dead holiday.
