Songfacts®:

  • This is a straightforward tribute song, well, a tribute rap anyway. Frownz is a curious fish indeed, in spite of the de rigueur profanity, he sounds more like a civil servant. The story behind this tribute number was related by the Camden New Journal in September 2013. Olasemo Abiola was a protégé of Camden's most tragic 27 year old, who died July 23, 2011; "Alive Or Dead" was released on the second anniversary of her death, apparently in the small hours because it is dated July 22, 2013, but YouTube runs on American time.

Amy Winehouse is not the only famous person Frownz appears to have shed tears over. His father, Moshood Kashimawo Olawale Abiola, was elected Prime Minister of Nigeria in 1993 but was quickly ousted. The following year he found himself behind bars where he remained until his death on July 7, 1998. Like Amy Winehouse the cause of his death was the subject of controversy, although it is probably safe to say that unlike hers it was not due to overindulgence in alcohol. >>>
