• "Big Night Out" tells the story of a morally compromised player who gets all the girls. It's filled with clever wordplay in the smooth, fast-paced style of their lead singer, Huey Morgan, who wrote the lyric. Morgan often told stories in his songs about outlandish characters.
• Two classic rock songs get sampled in "Big Night Out." The main riff comes from "American Girl" by Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers; the end of the song is a variation on "Can't You See" by the Marshall Tucker Band, with the lyric changed to:

• The song is part of Fun Lovin' Criminals' second album, 100% Colombian. By this time, it was clear their fanbase was in Europe, not in their homeland of America. They did most of their touring there and that's where they focused their promotion. "Big Night Out" was little-heard in America, but charted in the UK at #29.
• The group made a video for this song in the style of The Godfather, with the band members doing some acting as if they're part of a similar family. Mobster movies were a big inspiration for Fun Lovin' Criminals.
