Songfacts®:

  • "The Black Slim Shady" is a 10-minute diss track aimed at Eminem by The Game. He ignited the beef during his appearance on the Drink Champs podcast when the Compton MC claimed he's a better rapper than Marshall Mathers and would happily take him on in a Verzuz battle. The title references Em's 2000 hit, "The Real Slim Shady."
  • Throughout the track, The Game relentlessly slams Eminem's career, catalogue, personal life, and fashion sense. In the third verse, he mimics Em's flow on "Lose Yourself":

    So, oh, he goes platinum
And, oh, I'm on the 'Math with him
He got all the Blackest friends
He wants to be African, me

The Game is accusing Eminem of cultural appropriation as he surrounds himself with Black rappers rather than people of his own race.
  • The Game also goes after several of Eminem's associates, including his go-to producer and Aftermath label boss Dr. Dre, manager Paul Rosenberg, close friend 50 Cent, and even Em's daughter Hailie. The Compton rapper and 50 have feuded since The Game was kicked out of Fif's G-Unit group over his perceived disloyalty. Because of his disputes with 50 Cent, The Game left Aftermath in 2006 and signed with Geffen.
  • The Game inserts a couple of skits that feature an Uber driver named Matthew. Later in the song, the rapper reveals the man behind the wheel is the brother of Stan, the obsessive fan in Eminem's titular hit.
  • Chauncey "Hit-Boy" Hollis produced the incendiary cut. The Fontana, California beatmaker's other credits include The Game's collaboration with Kanye West, "Eazy." He has also worked on tracks by the likes of Jay-Z and Kanye West ("Niggas in Paris"), Travis Scott ("Sicko Mode") and, er, Eminem and Lil Wayne ("Drop The World").
  • The Game recorded "The Black Slim Shady" for his 10th studio album, Drillmatic – Mind vs. Heart. There's plenty of beef on the track; at 10:25, it's the longest song on the bulky, nearly two-hour record.
