  • Sundays are bad days for emergencies because most people aren't working - good luck getting a plumber when your pipe bursts. It's also a bad day to need a miracle because God doesn't work on Sundays either, but sometimes you just can't wait.

In this song, Gary LeVox had a falling-out with his girl and now she won't answer his calls or texts. He doesn't think he can make it to Monday without hearing from her, so he makes a special request to God, asking him to work just this one Sunday and grant his miracle.
  • Gary LeVox wrote this song with the country songwriters Cledus T. Judd, Wendell Mobley and Tony Martin. They completed it around 2016, but held on to it because LeVox wanted to record it himself and needed to wait for the right time.
  • LeVox is best known as the lead singer for Rascal Flatts. He released his first solo material - an EP of gospel music called One On One - in 2021. "Working On Sunday" is his first country single as a solo artist.
  • LeVox describes the melody as an "adult lullaby," with a very compelling chorus.
  • The song focuses on a breakup, but many listeners ascribed their own meaning to it. In a Songfacts interview with Gary LeVox, he said: "Now that the song's been out, I've been getting a ton of people who have taken pictures and put them in these collages with that as their music bed. Bedside visuals of people in the hospital with COVID, soldiers in Afghanistan, firefighters. People are taking it as their prayer. 'Look, I know how you feel about working on Sundays. I need a miracle in a bad way. I don't think I can wait. I don't think I can make it till Monday. So how do you feel about working on Sunday?'

So, everybody's just kind of taking it as their own, and it's really been powerful."
