  • This is the title track from Gaz Coombes' third solo album. Coombs explained the song's meaning to Q Magazine.

"That's about being in a low place, sitting in your dressing gown, watching TV thinking, 'When it comes to being an imperfect idiot, I'm the world's strongest man.' But I like it when things are in perfect and confusing. I would worry if everything was just great."
  • Coombes took inspiration for the record from Grayson Perry's autobiographical exploration of masculinity The Descent of Man.

"I'd already got halfway through the record and I went on holiday during the summer and that was just my summer reading. It was the catalyst for more lyrics to come and the name of the title track", he told NME.

"It was a very eye opening read, that book, incredibly well written and very non judgemental and sensitive and very eye opening," Coombes continued. "It's not an unusual thing at the moment to be questioning areas of humanity and what makes us decent human beings and that was something I really wanted to achieve while writing a lot of these lyrics."
  • Explaining the album title, Coombes told NME: "With the album title there's the element of the alpha male ruining it for everyone else, whether its world leaders or high profile celebrities, you know I just think everyone's tired of it."

He added: "We're tired of that alpha male thing. I think we can all be strong, you can be a strong man but consider yourself a strong human being. It doesn't always have to be separated into an 'I'm the guy with the muscles and I run the show' kind of thing."
  • The album cover tips the hat to David Hockney's painting A Bigger Splash. "I didn't shy away from the influence," Coombes admitted to the BBC in a May 2018 interview. "I went to his exhibition last summer in Paris and I just loved it and walked into the room with the full size Bigger Splash painting and thought that's how I want the album cover to look."
