Songfacts®:

  • This Song was literally composed while on stage at the Aztec Hotel in Monrovia, California by Dave Osti on a slow Thursday night in the bar. Osti while noodling between songs stumbled upon the opening guitar riff and instructed the rhythm section to fall into the groove, needing something to sing over the new music. Osti recalled a teenage sexual encounter with a motel owner's daughter who worked as a room attendant there, and how she ended up stealing his pack of cigarettes and some spare change by the time he checked out, hence the lyric, "She swept me out and dumped me with her dustpan and her broom." The song was later included on the first album by Gentlemen's Blues Club and retained nearly all of its original form from its first inception that night at the Aztec Hotel. >>>
