Songfacts®:

  • Jones first recorded this song as a duet with Shelby Lynne in 1988. It was her first released song, and while Lynne's memories of being a teen up-and-comer in Nashville are often recalled with disdain, is still grateful for her start in the business and credits this song for launching her career. • This was a modest hit on the Country chart, reaching #43 when it was released in 1988. In 1991 it appeared on Jones' album, Friends In High Places.
  • The Nashville songwriting fixtures Dean Dillon and Paul Overstreet wrote this song. Overstreet wrote many songs for Randy Travis and Keith Whitley, while Dillon's songs have been recorded by George Strait and Toby Keith.
