Songfacts®:

  • This ballad of Yuletide longing was originally made available for free on George Michael's official website on December 25th and December 26th of 2008. The following year it was released commercially by Michael on Island for a one-off Christmas single, after he'd fulfilled his contract with Sony.
  • This was the first Christmas single Michael had made available for commercial release since Wham's Last Christmas in 1984.
  • The song was written by George Michael and long-time writing partner David Austin. It was originally penned with the Spice Girls in mind. After they failed to meet a deadline, it was then going to be given to Michael Bublé but in the end Michael decided to keep it for himself.
  • The song features a sample from the Frank Sinatra recording of the Sammy Cahn/Jule Styn classic "Christmas Waltz."
