Songfacts®:

  • In this song Strait plays the heartbroken tough guy who tells his friends that he's OK, but cries at night thinking about the girl he lost. He can tell his friends he misses her in a "round about way," and he's not lying: he misses her around about midnight, which is when it hits him and the tears start falling.
  • The Nashville songwriters Steve Dean and Wil Nance wrote this song. Nance co-wrote several other George Strait tracks, including "Where Have I Been All My Life" and "If Heartaches Were Horses."
  • This was Strait's 33rd #1 hot on the Country chart.
