Songfacts®:

  • This is a tribute song to the then-recently deceased George Michael; it was uploaded to YouTube by Geri Halliwell four days before what would have been his 54th birthday. In her June 26, 2017 interview with Geri Horner of London Metro, she explained how she was a George Michael fan, how she became a friend, and how he helped her with her music.

Although he cannot be said to have died young - as in the song - George Michael died too young at 53, and it is clear he really was an angel in chains. Michael was the complete package, writing arguably his greatest song at just 17. He had looks, talent, fame, wealth, and the adulation of millions. Yet for all that he struggled with his sexuality, drug abuse, depression, and even ended up in prison after crashing his car while under the influence of drugs. An extraordinarily generous man - a closet philanthropist - his death came as a shock but no surprise to those who knew him or had followed his trials and tribulations over the years. >>>
