Songfacts®:

  • Mike Lévy is a French DJ and producer who performs under the name of Gesaffelstein. Lévy's stage moniker is a portmanteau of Gesamtkunstwerk (a word of German origin that is used for aesthetic ideals) and Albert Einstein.

Gesaffelstein has worked alongside such artists as The Weeknd ("I Was Never There" and "Hurt You") A$AP Rocky ("In Distress") and Kanye West ("Black Skinhead," "Send It Up)."

He signed to Columbia Records in November 2018 and this song was released Gesaffelstein's second single following his new contract.
  • The slow R&B groover finds Gesaffelstein hooking up again with The Weeknd. The Toronto singer does not deviate from his standard fare, crooning about a sexual relationship (potentially with on-off-on girlfriend Bella Hadid). Things then get really filthy in the second verse when he suggests a threesome with one of her girlfriends.
  • Elsewhere there is a possible diss at Drake, when the Weeknd sings:

I just want a baby with the right one
Cause I could never be the one to hide one

The two Toronto stars have a rocky history and this could be a reference to the OVO head honcho's secret child with a French porn actress. Drake's son was outed by Pusha T on "The Story of Adidon."
  • Gesaffelstein co-produced the track with Jason "DaHeala" Quenneville. The Canadian producer frequently works with The Weeknd most notably on "Earned It" and "Starboy."
