Songfacts®:

  • What is a January git? Well, according to a reviewer writing on the UK Amazon site in August 2005, the song is "word-associative nonsense set to swing-style jazz (complete with clarinet solos)," which is as good a description as any. It might also be construed as a hybrid of the John/Taupin "Solar Prestige A Gammon" and "Patricia The Stripper" by fellow Irishman Chris De Burgh.
  • Running 3:14, "January Git" was released in 1971 as the B-side of "Matrimony." It also appears on the August 1971 album Himself, was recorded at Audio International Studios, London, and was produced by Gordon Mills. >>>
