Songfacts®:

  • Ginny Blackmore is a singer and songwriter from Auckland, New Zealand. Blackmore left school at the age of 16 to become a musician, moving to London where she secured a publishing deal as a songwriter. Christina Aguilera recorded one of her songs ("Sing For Me") for her Lotus album but Blackmore decided that she wanted to sing the songs herself and moved to LA to pursue her goal. This is her debut solo single.
  • The song is a raw look at a girl who is involved with an unkind man and just isn't getting the love she deserves. Blackmore recalled to Radio.com the night she wrote the song, when she was alone in her Los Angeles apartment, drinking wine and having, what she calls, an "especially girly moment." "I'm very dramatic. It's probably embarrassing," she said, explaining she was actually giving herself a pep talk in front of the mirror. Blackmore was saying things to herself like, "You are attractive, Ginny. Someone will love you. You're wonderful."

"I just sang and the first verse came out freestyle," she added. "It's just what I felt in the moment, the first thing that popped in my head."
  • Blackmore told Radio.com that though the emotions in the song are her own, the story is a mixture of things close female relatives and her best friend have told her through the years. "It just turned into this ball of womanhood that I've experienced," she said.
