Songfacts®:

  • This Roger Miller penned tune was recorded by Glen Campbell for his final album, Adiós. Campbell chose for the project the eleven songs he had long loved but never put onto disc.
  • This track begins with a home recording of Roger Miller singing the tune before going into Glen Campbell's version with Vince Gill on harmonies. Glen Campbell's wife, Kim told the story of the song to The Boot:

"We had been visiting Roger Miller at his home in Santa Fe when Cal, our first child, was a baby. They were telling stories and singing each other's songs, and Roger started playing us songs that were some of his favorites or some that he was working on. One of those was 'Days of Our Wives.'

All of a sudden it occurred to me that I had a cassette recorder in my purse, and so I turned it on just in time to get him singing 'Am I All Alone (or Is It Only Me).' For so many years Glen had this little cassette, and he would play it over and over, and he would just say, 'We have to record this song.' So when we had the opportunity, I told Carl [Jackson, producer], 'We have to do this.' Glen was always such a good friend with Roger, he loved him so much, so that was a very special thing for him to finally get to do."
