Songfacts®:

  • Gloriana is an American country music group comprising brothers Tom and Mike Gossin, Rachel Reintert and former solo Pop vocalist Cheyenne Kimball.
  • This feel-good song about being young and carefree was their debut single. When Taylor Swift heard the song she invited the quartet to open on her Fearless 2009 tour. The exposure helped break them into the charts.
  • The song was co-written by Grammy Award winning producer Matt Serletic, who is known for his work with Rob Thomas and Matchbox Twenty. The other co-writers were Josh Kear (Before He Cheats) and former Epic Records artist Stephanie Bentley. Serletic also produced the track.
  • Tom Gossin told The 9513 why they released this track as their first single: "We felt very strongly about the song. We knew it had a really fresh sound and we knew it didn't sound like anything else on the radio. When you take that kind of risk with a song, you either bank on the fact that it's gonna be pretty big or people just won't get it at all. But we really believed in it, and we believed in the story that it told and the vibe that it kinda put out there. Yeah, we just went for it. It's probably the most unique song on our record, or the most standout song on our record. So we decided to go ahead and make it the first single and just kinda hit people hard the first time."
  • Reinert told Today's Country Magazine that the foursome originally had a different song lined up to be their debut single. She explained: "What happened was, we went in to record the first half of our album and we were going into record the back half of it, here at Martina McBride's studio, Blackbird Studio here in town. We had all of the songs picked out, and actually had another single picked in its place. We heard this song right before we went into the studio in the car. It had one guy singing on the demo and our producer had a hand in it. We listened to it and thought it was really cool, so we all sat down and arranged all the harmonies, the vocal parts and what kind of beat we wanted on the table with our hands and feet. With that stomp, clap five that we have on the record. We went in and recorded it and just really loved it and felt very strong about it. We just went with our instincts on it."
  • Reinert explained to Playback how Gloriana came up with their name: "That was probably the hardest thing about this band. We had a slew of different names when the whole thing started. We were messing around with the name "Glory" to reflect the four-part harmony thing that we do. One day, we were in the studio recording and Mike threw out the name. A lot of people think that Gloriana is a girl or is named after the (Benjamin Britten) opera, but it's not. It's just a cool sounding name that we stuck with."

  • Dennis from Hanford, CaThe first time I heard "wild at heart" I fell in love with it. It is such a feel good song with such a good message that I can't get enough of it. Gloriana is such a good band and they deserve every good thing that the industry can give them. Unfortunately, that's the only song I've heard from them. I hope to hear a lot more from them in the future.
