Songfacts®:

  • This is the title track of Gojira's fifth studio album, which is French for "The Wild Child."

The record was inspired by François Truffaut's 1970 film of the same name which tells the true story of Victor of Aveyron, a late 18th century child who spent the first eleven or twelve years of his life alone in the woods with little or no human contact. Frontman Joe Duplantier explained: "When you become a musician, you don't have a boss telling you what to do so you have to be very responsible. With freedom comes responsibility so I'm asking myself, 'What is freedom? What does it mean to me?' 'L'Enfant Sauvage' reflects on that. There's no answer though. There's just life and questions."
