Songfacts®:

  • This is a plea to a lover for their forgiveness. "Sugar Honey Ice Tea" is a well-known euphemistic acronym. You do the math!
  • This was Goodfellaz' only major hit, peaking at #64 on the Hot 100 and #25 on the R&B chart.
  • The songwriter Peter Lord wrote this track. Lord had previously worked with the likes of Paula Abdul, Ali, and Aftershock. The latter band had a member named Guy Route who went on to become a music manager. In a Songfacts interview with Lord, he said that Route asked him to write and produce Goodfellaz self-titled debut album, on which this song features. "It's interesting, a lot of these projects you're mentioning are connected to Guy Route who was a member of Aftershock and he eventually became a successful music executive and manager," said Lord. "He managed Goodfellaz and that's how we came to produce their album."
