Songfacts®:

  • This is the lead single from Ashland, Oregon native Grace Mitchell's Raceday EP. The song blew up when Zane Lowe premiered it on his Beats 1 radio show. "This might be the song of the year so far, honestly," the DJ and tastemaker gushed.
  • Mitchell penned the track with Mark Foster, the leader of Foster The People. She told Billboard magazine the story of the song's creation. "In the beginning it was a downtempo vibe track," Mitchell said. "It originally began very free-flowing and organic, and it started with a melodic instrumental guitar breakdown that was really moody. When we started adding samples and programmed drums and heavy production on the track, it became more energetic, with lots of crazy stuff going on. It was just this total evolutionary process."
  • The chorus is partly in French.

    Voulez-vous danser avec moi?
Do you wanna mix with me?
    (Tout le monde est jittering.)

    This translates as:

"Do you want to dance with me?
Do you wanna mix with me?
    (All the world is jittering)
