Songfacts®:

  • In a 2012 interview with Vintage Rock, Lake explained how this song came to be recorded after the break up of Emerson, Lake & Palmer: "I was in Abbey Road recording. Funny enough, I had kind of written a song with Bob Dylan. We didn't actually sit down and write it together. I wanted to do a Bob Dylan song, but I didn't want to do one that everyone else had done. I wanted to do one that was obscure. What happened was he sent me over a tape of a half-finished song and said, 'Look, you finish the song off and then you can do this with that one, and that way it's something original.' I finished the song and it was called 'I Love You Too Much.'"
  • Having recorded the song, Lake wasn't satisfied with the guitar solo; he wanted "something blistering," which was not his style, so his manager (he thought, remembering back 30 years) said he would give Gary Moore a call.

The Irishman walked into the studio wearing a long black leather coat with his Stratocaster in a case, took it out, plugged it in, and "what you hear on the record is Gary Moore playing for the first time he ever heard the song."
  • "Love You Too Much" runs to 4 minutes 55 seconds. Backed by "Someone" and produced by Lake himself, it is credited to him, Dylan, and backing singer Heather Springs. >>>
