Songfacts®:

  • This bittersweet song finds the heartbroken Griff trying to fill the void inside after her boyfriend unexpectedly walked out.

There's a big black hole where my heart used to be
And I tried my best to fill it up with things I don't need
It don't work like that, no, it's not easy
To fill this gap that you left in me
  • Griff wrote "Black Hole" with Frederik Eichen (Rita Ora & Imanbek's "The One") and the track's producer, Peter "Lostboy" Rycroft (Tom Grennan's "Little Bit Of Love"). They penned it during Griff's last studio session before the March 2020 COVID lockdown.
  • Though the song finds Griff brokenhearted, her overdramatic lyrical content and Lostboy's bouncy production sweetens the pill. "The melodrama of the lyrics - over a really interesting beat - keeps the song fun, and not too serious," she said.
  • Directorial duo SOB filmed the haunting video, which sees Griff examine a past relationship through a series of dreamlike vignettes.

"The song speaks about the feeling that a part of you is missing, and we wanted to create a video using different media to push this idea," said SOB to Promo News. "We used a scanner to show a fragmented divide between reality and inner self and contrasted the indoors with a vast nightscape to emphasize loneliness."

Prior to filming this video, SOB was best known for their clips for South London singer-songwriter and rapper Collard.
