Songfacts®:

  • "Loving You Has Made Me Bananas" is one of the most original novelty songs ever to grace the UK Singles Chart. It was written and performed by the American impressionist Guy Marks (1923-87) and was a one hit wonder, indeed, it appears to be both the only single he ever recorded and the only song he ever wrote.

Released originally in 1968 on the ABC label, it was backed by "Forgive Me My Love," which was written by Peter DeAngelis, who also produced the record. When it was released ten years later, it earned him an appearance on the BBC chart program Top Of The Pops in May 1978 where he performed it live complete with big band. >>>

  • Steve Carras from Whittier, cal.,usa"Lovin' You Has Made me Bananas" is simply (to paraphrase Alexander Baron, London, England) one of the most original novelty songs EVER to grace any SINGLE charts--it made the middle numbers in its original release in April 1968 here in the USA and its long 1920s-1940s dance band intro, and (a la American sweet band leaders Sammy Kaye and Kay Kyser identifying the singer and then a la Kaye using Sammy's own theme "Kaye's Melody", then using COMPLETELY random, UNRELATED AND UNRHYMING lyrics, which had been the medley of "old standard dance favorites", through all A sections of a simple classic 32 bar section with the B section taking a different tact, then repeating the last 16 bar with girl singers, this is quite an unique recording, on ABC records. Sadly, Guy Marks died in 1987.
