Songfacts®:

  • This song about moving on after the end of a romance follows "Nothing's Wrong" and the title track as the last of a trilogy on Something To Tell You. Danielle Haim explained to Pitchfork:

"We wrote it as charging forward, like a march–it's about knowing what we want, being empowered."

Alana Haim added: "Realizing you can heal yourself. You don't need anybody else to do that for you."

Danielle Haim concluded: And then the bridge is a reminder that there's a human element, that even though I feel like I've moved on, it still f---in' gets me sometimes."
  • The song was produced by Ariel Rechtshaid, who also manned the controls for the band's debut album (he also happens to be Danielle Haim's boyfriend). The track features an exhilarating string arrangement by Serena McKinney. Danielle said:

"She's so good. Her arrangements are insane. She brought in a whole crew [of musicians]. Ariel had worked with Nico Muhly on Usher's ' Climax,' so we had Nico do some of the arranging in his own way. And then we had Serena go over it with all of her people."
  • Bassist Este Hain explained the song's concept to NPR:

"You don't necessarily need someone to make you feel better - and that's something else that came with age. In your 20s all you see are these [romantic comedies] and all you can think is that that's what you want.

But at the end of the day, it's me, myself and I. I've come to realize I love myself. And I've had to learn that when I go to bed, I'm going to bed with Este Haim and she's great. She's a great best friend."
